There are similar validation features available along with independent scripts
that are used for testing the completeness of the translated content. However
most of them are not part of translation editors or cannot be used after
starting the application to test. For instance, besides doing a manual check
there is not particular method to know if the message shown on a widget spans
out of it after translation.

I'd say you are pretty much on the right track on your research.
