It is a way where the questions are archived and can be pointed out to
later as well. You really do have to understand that most of us work
fairly odd hours. Checking email is an easier option as compared to
being always online on IRC.

We generally request any queries to be sent to the list because it
allows anyone who is online and reading the list to respond. That
isn't possible when it comes to IRC. At least not always.
