I have no opinion or, suggestion to offer on whether you should visit
C-DAC Pune. However, there is a concern that I would like to point
out. If you want to understand the details of a software
implementation for which source code is not available under
appropriate free licenses and thereafter want to build on it (or,
based on it), you should think about "cleanrooms" in order to avoid
taints. The code you would develop, if your work is selected to be
part of the GSoC 2012, should be free of any encumberance.

I am not a lawyer, so the above is not to be construed as legal
advice. However as a project mentor I would assess the risk implicit
in a proposal.
