[Project-ideas] Bengali keyboard layout for mobile devices

Hi,

As I mentioned on the IRC a couple of days back, I'm interested in this
project idea. I have a couple of questions:

Does the input method also require word prediction capabilities? Or can it
be safely marked as a "bonus" idea to be implemented if time permits? This
will require me to study string matching algorithms.

Will transliteration be a good idea in addition to the "real" Bengali
layout? Google has a javascript transliteration API which is deprecated,
but will remain functional for another 3 years. Their transliteration works
quite well for Hindi, so I'd imagine it works fine for Bengali as well (can
someone confirm this?). http://www.google.com/transliterate
I have no idea how I'd integrate javascript though, short of somehow
running a hidden WebView.

I'm currently looking into designing Android IME and am going to design a
basic English keyboard to get a better understanding of it.
